As we all prepare to kick off the holiday season with a BANG this week, we at Camp Shaw felt it necessary to remind you as to what important days are coming up. So sit back, relax and thank us later.

Thursday, November 26th: Thanksgiving – Eat lots, enjoy your family, and take lots of selfies.
Friday, November 27th: Black Friday – Shop until you drop, drink some coffee and take lots of selfies.
Saturday & Sunday: Don’t get dressed, sleep-in, decorate the house for the holidays and … take lots of selfies.
Monday November 30th: Cyber Monday – Shop from the comfort of your own home, don’t get dressed and well you know …

Seems like a pretty hectic few days, huh? There is one more day on this crazy calendar, however, that we would like to share with you:

Tuesday, December 1st: Giving Tuesday

giving tuesday 2

Since its inauguration in 2012, this day has been deemed as a day of charitable giving. Giving Tuesday is 24 hour period of time for individuals to financially support the nonprofit organizations whose missions and services they closely follow. Giving Tuesday serves as a means to spotlight the selfless contributions of individuals in a highly materialistic driven world . This day is a day to foster change and to show the good in our nation and communities.

So the question is, will you be joining us this year? Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See is dedicated to providing youth with life changing overnight summer camp experiences. Our goals are to provide campers with the ability to further develop social skills, learn independence along with being able to proactively problem solve with their peers in a fun and safe environment. It is through the financial support of our donors that we are able to keep our mission alive.

A financial contribution, no matter the amount, to Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See this Giving Tuesday will not go unnoticed. Here are just a few examples of what a donation to Camp Shaw will allow us to do:

  • We can provide financial assistance to families who may not be able to afford to send their child to camp.
  • We are able continue to purchase equipment, like bows, arrows and targets, to keep our program equipment up to date and safe.
  • We are able to introduce new programs to keep the magic of camp alive and well, like our extreme tree climbing program.
  • We can continue to make updates to our facilities, like painting our cabins and heating our buildings.
  • We are able to hire more staff to keep our ratios low so youth are getting direct attention from caring and compassionate staff members.

As we prepare to celebrate 70 years of overnight camp at Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See we want to make sure that we will be around for another 70 years. Overnight camp experiences can be truly life changing and we want to continue to offer such amazing opportunities for youth.  Consider supporting Camp Shaw this Giving Tuesday. You won’t regret it and we will forever be grateful.  So mark your calendars for December 1 and we will all celebrate and have some fun!

Wishing all a  magical Thanksgiving holiday,

Greg “Timber” LaPlante – Executive Camp Director
Carson “Canadia” Cross – Assistant Camp Director
